Unit 6: Turtle
Unit 6: Turtle I don't quit; I persevere. God has given us important things to do and wants us to keep doing them even when it's hard or it takes a long time. Even young children have important things to do like clean their room, shower, brush teeth, comb hair, etc. Obeying mother and father can be exhausting for a little one, but God said, "Let us not become tired of doing good. At the right time we will gather a crop if we don't give up." Galatians 6:9.
I am still having Caleb do only the bare minimum since he is still protesting. Here is his handwriting page of the letter Tt and the number 6. The second page is oral dictation. I ask him to point to the letter sound he hear's in the middle of the word. His word was /sat/. Then he tells me the beginning and ending letters and finishes with writing the word.
Caleb continues to work on sound discrimination by crossing out any pictures that do not begin with the letter Tt. He knows his letters and their sounds super well so this is always an easy task for him. The second page he must recognize the word I say and follow the directions. For example, I will say, "circle the word Sam in blue crayon". He did really well.
Learning to read words one at a time. He must say the word and match it with the picture. He's going to be reading in no time. He will be very excited to read for himself.
Math consisted of writing the number 6 and making a color pattern with the turtles. I then asked a series of questions to ensure his understanding. Caleb is not going to have any problems with math. In fact, I will probably have to hire a tutor when it comes to geometry and statistics. Two subjects I dislike. Caleb is now preferring to draw his pictures instead of cut them out of a magazine. Yeah, I'm excited about this.
We finished the week by reading The Tortoise and the Hare by Janet Stevens. He liked it so much we had to read it five times.
